I actually was a fan of his pioneering song, “Say Yeah” but after that didn’t blow this kid, Wiz Khalifa up, I fell off paying attention to him too tough while he diligently continued to solidify his base of support within the hip hop blog world. I get the feeling he’s getting a second kick at the can right now and will still end up becoming big though. To wit, this great remix of his still in-the-making hit, “Black and Yellow” with Young Jeezy. Wiz might even help rehabilitate Jeezy’s inexplicably stalled music career:

Kim is scorching here (“clap, clap…”) but honestly, I don’t think she can win this one on merit alone (if she even has the chops to). I think the public’s already decided this one and, unfortunately, the criteria’s a little different for women in this sexist world we live in. You can’t be the mature, old vet a la Hova swatting at the young upstart pretenders to the throne disinterestedly. Young & hot almost always trumps old & experienced as far as the female side of things goes, especially in the entertainment world.
Not that Kim doesn’t have half a point but on the other hand Nicki has kind of transcended any thing she ever did. Truthfully, Nicki is more on par with Lady Gaga and Gwen Stefani, artist perception-wise, than she is comparable to other female rappers at this point in the game. I’m sure there’s people out there who knew who Nicki Minaj was before she even dropped the album but who probably have no idea who Lil Kim is as long as she’s been in the game.
