I dig this young lady from DC.
Above top is an original track and below it, her freestyle over Talib Kweli’s “The Blast.” Check out more on Ms. Lola Maxwell here:
“Lola Maxwell is an aspiring Hip Hop artist who is not only a student of the fashion world but one of hip-hop as well. Believing the music that she produces is part of what is needed in the present-day hip-hop industry. Her listeners have agreed that Ms. Maxwell portrays the essence of the real hip-hop they once loved and enjoyed. Though she is only 21 years old and didn’t necessarily grow up during the time when hip-hop was grungy and ‘real,’ her style and lyrics are easily comparable to Lauryn Hill, MC Lyte, Lupe Fiasco, Mos Def, and Common. She has opened for Camp-Lo, Chip Da Ripper and several others.”
Heady words! Dig those videos and thinks she meets them? Here’s the MP3s, if you do:

I’m not loving this track too tough but homegirl makes the cut on all-women hip hop day here at The Kitchen. Don’t take that as indicative of compromising standards to accommodate females around these parts. I just didn’t want to repeat some post of some great hip hop stuff made by women I’d posted recently like the Kid Sister Kiss Kiss Kiss mixtape (and the Gucci Mane-featured “Gucci Rag Top” single from it), Rah Digga‘s remix of her “Solidified” single or newcomer, Narubi Selah’s “U Already Know.”
But let’s give Kandys her due and shine as she explains her “Superfly” single…
“The whole concept of the song is to represent the ladies with two ideas in mind. The first is that as women we all want a man who works hard in life who is able to give us what we want. The second idea is that if we can’t find that man who’s right, we can still strive to get what we want on our own with hard work. I think that this is a track that all my ladies will definitely feel me on because we all like to get fly and feel sexy at one time or another.”
“As women, we can prove that we don’t always need a man to get what we want in life if we work at our full potential. “Superfly” was inspired by my love for clothing, fashion, cars, and life’s luxuries. With this record,I wanted to give the listeners “swag” and strictly show them more of my my hip-hop side. This track is one that will definitely bang in your speakers.”

I featured this young female MC, Devynity before when her Genesis…The Prequel mixtape first dropped. “Pleasure,” shot and edited by “King” David Cortorreal and John Carr and produced by Ryan Perfect for Audio Pictures, is the first video from it.
