[DJ Mix] DJ Mensa presents Hibernation

I’m late posting this but with even yet more snow last night when I was coming home from dinner at a friend’s this seemed apropos to post now still:

For better or for worse, this has been the winter everyone’s been waiting for. The one we were bound to get because we’ve been getting it too easy with global warming the past two years. The east coast’s been Pacquiao’ed with packed snow for two months straight. My city’s about to be tucked in another 30cm blanket of it tonight, and bumpers everywhere are going to be bruised over the next week. No fun for most.

Unless you have a reason to stay in. Which is where this mixtape come out to play.

Following up where Cabin Fever left off, Hibernation is an exploration in lo-fi: soft keys, warm bass, and all kinds of intimacy. Amazing remixes of R’n’B standards, left field covers of others and, of course, The-Dream. Far from a slow jam tape, but definitely a gateway to foreplay, or something.

Use your sick days up wisely.”

[MP3] Elaquent – Persona (Mixtape Album)

This is one of the cats I’m hoping is gonna get down with my long-delayed next Connoisseurs of Culture project. Check this out to see why, dude’s beats are RIDICULOUS!

Upbeat. Smooth. Laidback. Eclectic. Off Kilter. 8 Bit. Swinging. Music is an experience. Music is not that serious. Persona is a representation of influences, inspiration and my past. Persona is a collection of my previously recognized styles and personality. Persona is not After Midnight 2. Persona is not In Colour vol 4. Persona is not the album I havent released yet. Simply put, Persona is all of the above.

With that said, thank you for purchasing. Your mere $10 donation will go a VERY long way…I put my heart and soul into this project, just as I put myself into all of my work. I will continue to put out free releases if folks support the official ones.

Little people like me rely on that support to earn enough money to reinvest back into my career..that will result in more official, and unofficial releases. Plus, I’m a really nice guy.

Cheers, enjoy.

one love,

eQ

[MP3] Jeffrey Sledge & Angelique Miles – ‘The Pop Life Podcast’ (2.20.11)

I know I’m late on this but they spent practically the whole show talking about wack BET reality shows I never watch and based on their reaction to them, that they don’t even really wanna watch either! I’m sure this upcoming week they’ll be talking about this debacle (so far) of an Oscars!

[Mixtape] DJ M-Rock – The Best of Kanye West

I posted this on the Kitchen‘s Facebook page a month ago but the buzz has been building and this kid’s from a Toronto and a helluva DJ so I’m posting it on the blog proper. Don’t sleep! Check it out….

I lack fanciness in writing and in the artwork (which I did myself), but I promise you my skills as a DJ are sharp as a ginsu on this tape. It took me 3 weeks, probably between 100 – 200 hours to get it right (I’m picky). I really went deep in to give music fans something articulate: scratches, digital juggles, lots of blends, studio edits and tricks. If you play it on an iPod or in iTunes, the tracks are all chapters and there’s a pic for every chapter representing the song. I’d like people to rate this among the best tapes ever, but you guys be the judge, diss it, love it, hate it, whatever, let me know what you think.”

[Mixtape] RogB – Ode to Blue Magic

From Roger Bong:

“Showing his appreciation for one of the greatest vocal acts of all time, producer Roger Bong (RogB) builds upon Blue Magic’s self-titled LP to create new music founded in the same smooth and honest sound.

Ode to Blue Magic is not a collection of remixes or versions, but an album inspired by the group’s classic 1974 debut album, Blue Magic.”

[Enter Roger Bong]

“It’s hard to do justice for something so near perfection. But I tried. I must be insane to think I could stumble upon something like this—in truth this could never be as real as i want it. But I tried… What’s come over me?

Ode to Blue Magic.

You see, Blue Magic’s 1974 debut has gone through some changes. I’ve never been to heaven, but I’ve spent the night with Blue…and it always feels so alive, young and infinite. It’s truly Magic. After playing their album countless times, I just kept on wondering how I could show my respect for such a beautiful record. So here it is. There’s nothing wrong with your ears, they aren’t deceiving you. This is Ode to Blue Magic, and it’s my way of showing appreciation to one of the greatest soul groups of all time.”
