Do I really need to say anything here? F-CKING AMAZING!!!
Never heard of this group before even though they have actually played my boy, Chilly’s Rollin’ & Scratchin’ party in the past. I came up on them from screening submissions for this summer’s NXNE (you can still submit, deadline is tomorrow). Honestly, the dude vocalist is kind of mediocre but she sounds (and looks) good, the beats (which are more hipster, electro-club fresh than some straight-up hip hop ish) are great, the songs are fun & catchy and they’re local plus look at the video! Their swag is pretty unf-ckwittable!
Download their brand new Black Success mixtape at their website HERE. Hit the jump for another track too.
Very backpacky but this is a pretty immaculately produced piece of music and you know I’m a Tanika fan! Thanks for the heads up, Del.

This is pretty much the only album, besides Common’s, that I have played on repeat since end of last year. I was a major fan of Slakah‘s two projects last year, Art of Fresh‘s When the Night… and his solo Something Forever album and (probably unrealistically in hindsight) lobbied hard for both to make the Polaris Music Prize long list because I think the dude’s a genius and an under-appreciated treasure here in Toronto.
Both of those albums were amazing, beautifully-produced, cohesive, quality works. Now this Slakadeliqs album shows they were no fluke either. Other Side of Tomorrow is as good a piece of music as anything coming out of London, Philly, Detroit, LA or any other scenes that are known for their progressive beat-oriented, urban music sounds. Soul, pop and psychedelia all mixed up in a beautiful stew. This is worth everyone’s time. Check it out:
F-CKING EPIC!!!! He’s BACK! This is just one small slice of evidence for why I say D’Angelo live at Radio City on the Voodoo Live Tour is the greatest show I have ever seen!
