[New Mixtape] Zeds Dead & Omar LinX – Victor (EP)

From my people at 2+2 who manage Zeds Dead and Omar LinX (who long-time readers here at The Kitchen will know from my prior posts):

Zeds Dead and Omar LinX present: Victor – seven genre-bending tracks on Mad Decent’s Jeffree’s label. Fusing nostalgic 90s sample-based hip hop with futuristic bass and cinematic soundscapes, The Victor Mixtape is both a step forward and a throwback to the past featuring Omar LinX rapping over some of Zeds Deads classic hits such as “Eye On Fire”, “Rude Boy”, and more!

Hip-hop and dubstep connect like Voltron. Get familiar!

[MP3] New Single: Nas – The Don

After my homegirl pulled my collar to this track via text, I left my initial reaction to Nas‘s latest single, a heatrock titled “The Don” on twitter. The track is the initial salvo from his tenth (!) studio album, Life Is Good and as I later said on same said friend’s Facebook page, “When Nas gets it right is still one of more rarefied pleasures in hip-hop music.” Who doesn’t like this??! “The Don” was produced by Heavy D (as Nas points in his his rhymes), Salaam Remi & Da Internz (who??).

Nneka – Soul is Heavy is my new favorite album….

These are just a few selections from the album which is really f-cking good! CLICK HERE to hear clips from the full album via Rdio. The title and album felt apropos to play yesterday as I learned about the passing of a dear, dear friend of mine after a long fight against cancer. My soul is heavy indeed. Devin, you woulda loved this album. May your soul be finally at rest. I love you and I miss you.

Have Y’All Been Sleeping on the New Planet Asia Black Belt Theatre Album Like Me??

I was saying on twitter last night that the RDIO is my main discovery touch-point for new music and finding out which albums are out nowadays via the New Releases tabs on their website. F-ck a blog, tbh! That is where I saw long-time, underground MC, Planet Asia had dropped a new album called Black Belt Theatre yesterday. I clicked play on it out of curiosity and proceeded to have my mind half-melted. GREAT.F-CKING.ALBUM, seriously!

Then later last night I was trying to clear out my blog email mailbox and saw this promo mixtape, The Arrival with the NY homie and legendary mixtape DJ, Doo Wop sent out my his label, Wandering Worx to promote Black Belt Theatre. It starts off just OK but gets hot real quick. Click play fa sho’! And then hit the jump for an embed of the Black Belt album and some promo visuals from the album (note: the album embed will probably only work in countries where RDIO and the album is licensed and active, US, Canada and maybe Australia and Brazil??)
