Full Video of the Third Party Presidential Debate Moderated by Larry King

Despite my sense that RT America is a thinly-disguised propaganda platform for the Russian government with an agenda, editorial slant and programing direction that reflects as much, they do on occasion broadcast stories that MSM outlets in the US deliberately bury overlook. To wit…

In response to widespread blackout from both the mainstream media and political establishment alike, RT is honored to be presenting a platform for the major third-party candidates also vying for the White House this election year to debate. We offered the event live in cooperation with the debate’s organizers, the Free and Equal Elections Foundation.

The event was moderated by multi-award winning broadcast journalist Larry King and was broadcasted live from Chicago, Illinois. Thom Hartmann, the star of RT’s The Big Picture and noted radio host, was one of a few select journalists hand-picked to hit the candidates with questions about their campaign.

For my American readers, check this out if you truly want to be an informed citizen before you vote on Nov. 6.

[Album Stream] Listen to Kid Koala’s 12 Bit Blues in FULL

Blurb swaggerjacked from CBC Music:

The continuing adventures of Montreal turntablist, Kid Koala have brought us all a healthy dose of the blues. The endlessly creative phenom’s latest album is 12 bit Blues, an homage to the classic E-mu SP-1200 drum machine and sampler that fulfills a childhood dream and the Kid’s creative impulse.

“Even by the way I titled them, they weren’t born as songs, they were experiments,” Kid Koala says over the phone from Montreal. “I wanted to use this iconic hip-hop equipment from when I first got into the music. Back in the late ’80s the SP-1200 was the machine. It was completely out of reach for me financially because I only had a paper route and it was $5,000, so that was never going to happen.

“But y’know, technology has caught up and, by today’s standards, it’s almost completely pointless to make records using this machine! But that was almost the challenge; I wanted to do this future/past blues record and use these hip-hop tools. So, all of these are essentially studies in that and I just numbered them as such. Back in my classical piano days, it’d always be ‘Study #2,’ ‘Study #3’ and you’d learn things along the way.”

[Video] 17 Year Old’s Secret iPod Recording Captures the Reality Behind the NYPD’s Stop and Frisk Policy

I don’t do this often (ever??) but EVERYONE SHOULD RETWEET, REBLOG, POST AND OTHERWISE SHARE THIS VIDEO. It’s that important!

From The Nation:

Exclusive audio obtained by The Nation of a stop-and-frisk carried out by the New York Police Department freshly reveals the discriminatory and unprofessional way in which this controversial policy is being implemented on the city’s streets.

On June 3, 2011, three plainclothes New York City Police officers stopped a Harlem teenager named Alvin and two of the officers questioned and frisked him while the third remained in their unmarked car. Alvin secretly captured the interaction on his cell phone, and the resulting audio is one of the only known recordings of stop-and-frisk in action.

In the course of the two-minute recording, the officers give no legally valid reason for the stop, use racially charged language and threaten Alvin with violence. Early in the stop, one of the officers asks, “You want me to smack you?” When Alvin asks why he is being threatened with arrest, the other officer responds, “For being a fucking mutt.” Later in the stop, while holding Alvin’s arm behind his back, the first officer says, “Dude, I’m gonna break your fuckin’ arm, then I’m gonna punch you in the fuckin’ face.”

‘Stop and Frisk’ is just a terrible, terrible program despite what Mayor Bloomberg and Police Commissioner Ray Kelly may think. Besides the fact that this kid had been stopped before that day, the amazing thing is, he’s the son of a cop (‘on the job’ in their parlance) and known to the police who stopped him as having been part of their Explorers after-school program. Clearly, as people of color have long known, no-one is immune and social programs meant to bridge the gap may not be enough to overcome the level of dysfunction and damage that marks relations between that community and the police. And sad to say but I feel Alvin’s pain. And BTW, don’t think this is just an NYC thing either….
