I have long been a fan of Smith & Mighty, a Bristol, UK-based production duo that were progenitors of the breakbeat, bass-heavy sound that presaged everything from Massive Attack and Portishead to the UK street soul of Soul II Soul, drum n bass, Shut Up And Dance, broken beat and even, at a stretch, the breakbeat R&B template that uptown DJ, Ron G created on his mixtapes and that Diddy took to the masses with Mary J. Blige and his Bad Boy label.
When I DJ’d for a living back in the mid-2000’s, I played this Burt Bacharach & Hal David cover regularly back then as well as their cover of another Bacharach & David classic, “Anyone Who Had a Heart” (titled “Anyone”). This is music I will love until I die and the reason why I do this blog still. Y’all dig?
As I said over at XclusivesZone.net where I swiped this from: “Lyrics: ig’nant as all hell; Track overall: banger status!” Who the hell is Beni Haze though??!
Is this on the Marshall Mathers LP 2??! Crazy! This is inspired by the early 90s baggy jeans, wheat Tims and camo M65 jacket era of hip-hop. Recognize! Shout to Black Moon, you know “They Got Cha Opin” back in the day
Quick taster from Toronto MC, King Reign‘s forthcoming promo-only EP, Reign Music Vol. 2 coming soon swaggerjacking Rihanna‘s “Stay” with buzzing Tdot underground soul singer, Shi Wisdom handling vocal duties. The EP is a preview before Reign’s next full length album which I was privileged to be invited to attend an album listening session for. Early stages but sounded promising.

New project from T.dot by way of Sarnia MC and Art Of Fresh duo co-member, D.O. Gibson. Here’s the science:
“Life Size Feeling” is the first release from my group project THE BUSY BROTHERS which is myself and my longtime collaborator Diz Dallas. Been a busy time over here. Was in ATL for A3C and then just got back from Amsterdam Dance Event. We shot the video for it while I was on tour in Taiwan and looking forward to releasing it shortly! In the meantime, getting set for a crazy November where I will be doing 28 shows in 30 days.
The Busy Brothers Publicity Bio:
D.O. is a Guinness World Record setting rapper that set the record for the longest freestyle rap. Diz Dallas is an international hit maker that has been produced for Juno nominated artists and Youtube sensations.
The two grew up together in Sarnia, Ontario and have been making music for more than a decade. Diz Dallas produced D.O.’s first EP and has played a large role behind the scenes over the years. It was upon hearing Diz’s raps on his recent “Tailor Made” album that made D.O. say “Man, you’ve really stepped up your game. We really should do a project together.”
As the duo started to record songs, one thing was clear – it didn’t sound like their solo material. They knew they needed a name for the distinct sound they were creating. They are the “Busy Brothers” because of their hectic lifestyles of being both family men and active in business. Aside from being a rapper, D.O. is a motivational speaker, author, businessman and father. Diz Dallas is a regional manager in charge of a managers, supervisors and a staff of about 200 for a company that will go public this year as well as a single digit handicap golfer and father.
In Fall 2013, The Busy Brothers will release their debut EP “The Busy Brothers” featuring the singles “Life Size Feeling” and “It Gets Better.”The sound of their new project is rooted in the blue collar upbringing that they recieved from strong parental figures and community leaders, coaches and mentors.
