[MP3] Common – Speak My Piece

Common - "Speak My Piece" artwork

This did the rounds a few weeks back but I’ve been so busy with work and other projects I totally missed it until I heard it when I played Common‘s new album, Nobody’s Smiling when I saw it in the new release section of RDIO (which I was happy to see!)

The album’s getting mixed response from what I’ve seen so far but I like it although my first impressions are that it does feel a little schizo. The first half sounds like Com’ was inspired to get back on his experimental Electric Circus/Universal Mind Control sh-t after getting inspired by Yeezus then the second half is him back on his more radio-friendly boom-bap/soulful vibe. That’s just my take on a couple initial listens though. I’m gonna live with it more before I render a final judgement. This song is a BANGER though! A nice update on Golden Era-style hip-hop.

Bonus:

Hit the jump to hear the Common episode of the Combat Jack Show:

[MP3] Art Of Fresh – Waiting

Art Of Fresh - Waiting artwork

New music from old Kitchen favorites, D.O. Gibson and Slakah The Beatchild better known together as ‘club-hop’ duo, Art of Fresh. Always been a fan of AoF whose music have been criminally overlooked IMHO. But maybe now that discofied sounds from the likes of Pharrell and Chromeo are in vogue right now, their time has come?? Track, produced by Tone Mason and Slakah, from the forthcoming album, Good Morning Yesterday.
