New from the Truth & Soul records soundcloud:
Plane Jane Records is proud to present The Bacao Rhythm & Steel Band‘s newest 45 release.
The BRSB made a ton of noise with their cult classic cover of 50 Cent‘s “PIMP” a few years back, most people thinking that it was the original tune 50 sampled from.
This time they take the Steel Drum Funk sound to a deeper part of Hip Hop with their own rendition on the late great J Dilla‘s classic tune “Rico Suave”. The A Side is “Bacao Suave”, a surefire version of the tune, and you know we like versions. DJs, have a great time.
The B Side is their rendition of the underground classic “Round & Round” from Hi Tek‘s Hi-Teknology album. An absolutely killer version of the tune, drums are heavy, steel pans playing thru the melodies, sure to turn heads on the dance floor. Full length album “55” coming soon on Truth & Soul Records.
Always love cool steel band covers.
Not sure how you make this argument that they swaggerjacked Genesis LXG‘s “House of Pain” (featuring Thanos) when they both ripped off House of Pain‘s classic “Jump Around” which recently turned 22 years old, but hey…..
I posted the track before but now here goes the video for “Promo” from King Reign‘s forthcoming Sincere album (which is great but something very different than you might be expecting). Don’t believe me, check out this other track, “Chemical Romance”, produced by Toronto DJ/producer, Agile, from the album which drops next week (July 14) on CLK Creative/ Reign Music. Also, look out for something special from Reign and The Kitchen next month. More details in the very near future.
Previously on The Kitchen:
– King Reign – Killer [MP3]
– King Reign – The Meeting Place (Happy Endings) [MP3]
YES!!! The ‘God’ MC that some still regard as the greatest MC to ever touch a mic is coming back to Toronto. Regardless of whether you hold that view or not, Rakim Allah is undoubtedly responsible for some of the greatest music from what many consider hip-hop greatest era, the much mythologized and fabled Golden Age from ’86-’92.
Wanna see what all the fuss is about? I have TWO pair of tickets to give away for Rakim’s performance at The Phoenix this Friday here in Toronto. To win, tweet me at @Stellaskid (and follow me so I can DM in the event you win) the following message:
“I wanna win tickets to see RAKIM (@rakimgodmc) this Fri. (7/4) at The Phoenix pres. by @RockpileClub” [note: no quotation marks needed when you tweet]
Two winners will be selected at random at noon ET on Friday (July 4) to get the tickets so stay tuned. In the meantime enjoy a little classic Rakim:
