Rapper, Vic Mensa debuted this track, “16 Shots”, a tribute to Laquan McDonald, when he performed it at the #JusticeforFlint benefit concert where it promptly cracked my skull open when I watched it live on Oscar night. This is, I believe, the actual audio from that performance which surfaced on Soundcloud a a few days ago. And they say hip-hop is nothing but turn-up music nowadays and the kids don’t care about being socially conscious…

Whoa, new track by Toronto’s Zeds Dead featuring Gary, IN’s finest (now that the King is gone, that is), Freddie Gibbs. This one, from their forthcoming album due late this year via their new Deadbeats label, is kinda fiya!
For you industry types, Zeds will be doing parties at SXSW featuring Just Blaze and more, March 16 at Kingdom, and in Miami featuring Destructo and more, March 17 at the Gale for Miami Music Week. Meanwhile Gibbs heads out on tour in Australia, the US and Europe (or Belgium so far, at least) starting March 10. See the dates HERE.
S’funny: I’m currently reading Toronto Dj/journalist, Denise Benson‘s book, Then & Now on the history of Toronto Nightlife which talks about many of the alternative/new wave clubs in the late seventies into the early eighties that played UK music. One of the tracks that gets multiple mentions as part of that is the Pet Shop Boys “West End Girls.” Could this track by a new T.dot MC, EverythingOShauN, who I wasn’t familiar with before now, be the new millennia update??! Track is from the Until Now project out today, I believe (??).
