New track from Toronto-based jazz-hoppers, BADBADNOTGOOD.
It’s hard to do a bad version the standard “Look of Love” by Bacharach & David (as evidenced by my love of this UK street soul classic take by Massive Attack precursors, The Wild Bunch). This version by DMNDBK is like the 2014 take on the approach TWB took back in 1988. Nice!
Another one I got up on, straight out of Australia, from screening submissions for NXNE. This is f-cking brilliant. The production and vocal are both amazing, like a modern era Portishead?
Solid track I heard from Stina Bomb, a local Toronto female MC, while screening the hip-hop submissions for NXNE. Shades of Eternia and early 90s NYC hip-hop on this track from her In Desperate Times 8 track full length. I f-cks with it.
#Chinchillastyle! Unlike 2 Chainz, Rapsody is “above the average, a poet baby laureat [who] don’t relate to ratchet.”
Track from the album, Jamla Is The Squad -The Compilation, hosted by Statik Selektah. Homegirl is KILLIN’ this sh-t! Hit the jump for a couple other (older) tracks from her, “Lonely Thoughts” feat. Chance The Rapper & Big K.R.I.T. and “Mass Hysteria” (sampling Erykah Badu‘s neo-soul classic, “The Other side of the Game”, produced by 9th Wonder). Rapsody reminds me vaguely of fellow female MC, Signif but she’s way nicer on the mic.
