[Premiere] OSIYM – Lookin Like Feat. Filli Babii

We’re happy to be able to premiere the latest single from underrated (for now!) Toronto hip-hop duo, OSIYM as we were major fans of their last single, “Flex” today.

“Lookin Like” also introduces us to the new (to us) female rapper, Filli Babii. We look forward to hearing more from her too in the future. Wanna know about OSIYM? Peep game:

About OSIYM:
This duo from the west end of Toronto has be known to bring the party anywhere they go. Their infectious personalities, witty one liners and energetic charisma are not only showcased in person but also in their music. This has helped them bring their infectious personalities to different stages such as Manifesto, NXNE, YouBloom LA, SOB’s, A3C & more. OSIYM which stands for Out of Sight, In Your Mind are about making the music that you will remember long after they are gone with their unique but relatable topics and their uncanny songwriting abilities.

“Lookin Like” featuring Filli Babii will be out on all DSP’s this coming Friday (July 13).

[News] Toronto Rapper Smoke Dawg Murdered in Long Weekend Shooting

We will concede that, while we were familiar with local up-and-coming Toronto rapper, Smoke Dawg on a very cursory level (we were following him on Soundlcoud, at least), it was his untimely demise this weekend that, sadly, compelled us to share his music here at the Kitchen for the first time.

A quick backgrounder for those not knowing:

Smoke Dawg first gained notoriety for his role on the street anthem “Still” and a remix of French Montana’s “Trap House”. In 2016, he collaborated with Skepta on “Overseas” and last year, he was an opening act on Drake’s Boy Meets World European tour. Just this week he dropped a new song called “Fountain Freestyle” to preview his debut full-length project, Struggle Before Glory, which was slated for release later this year.

As I said in a Facebook post about this news, in the wake of the news of the deaths of XXXTentacion and Jimmy Wopo this is sobering news to learn of from right here in our home town. The creators within our culture should not be dying like this! R.I.P., Smoke Dawg…..

[MP3 Premiere] Honors – X2UO / Control

Another week, another premiere of more great, new music by yet another great act from right here in The 6ix. We’re truly in a Golden Age of music in Toronto. Honors is a relatively new group we just got up on but they are quickly becoming one of our favorites. Here’s the background on their excellent new two song single release which is out today and officially premiering here at the Kitchen:

Toronto alt-r&b collective HONORS, who have already allotted over 20 million streams and reached #1 on Spotify’s Global Viral chart, lean into moody atmospherics on their new release. Led by an equal parts sleek, sultry, and ultimately infectious single called “X2UO”, it also comes equipped with a thunderous b-side cut called “Control”. The two tracks offer a glimpse at what’s to come on HONORS’ forthcoming debut EP which is slated to drop this fall, not to mention what they’ll bring to the live circuit as they head out on the road in support of NoMBe.

[MP3 Premiere] Shan Vincent de Paul – Stand By Me

The Kitchen is psyched to premiere another amazing song by one of our (near) hometown artists, Shan Vincent de Paul.

Some of you who are all about discovering great new music may already be familiar with him from singles off his two previous albums like “The Sacred”, “Light” or “B*tch Go”, that third track which we featured here on the site in November of last year.

We actually have even more history with this Sri Lankan-Canadian, Brampton-based artist because, as part of my day hustle at CBC Music, I had a large hand in booking the excellent First Play Live session he did for them for the release of his second album, the 2017 Trigger Happy Heartbreak earlier this year.

“Stand By Me” is de Paul’s latest single and it is set for official release TOMORROW (June 22).

Dig “Stand By Me”? Pre-save it on Spotify HERE. (note: that link will turn into the smart url to access the single on any of your favorite streaming sites upon the release tomorrow, Friday).

[MP3 Premiere] Adriiana – Stay Good

Always great when we can champion talent from our own backyard. Today the Kitchen is proud to premiere the latest single from Toronto singer, Adriiana, an artist signed to Tommy Boy records, a label I happen to have a deep history of my own with too. Here’s more on Adriiana:

Adriiana has teamed up with production duo SMiTHMUSiX to deliver a bright, melodic Pop smash. Over vibrant plucks and some slick drum programming, she delivers a sultry, attitude filled performance speaking directly to everyone trying to hold her back. Ready to carve her own path, Adriiana seems adamant about being exactly who she wants to be with no second thoughts or regrets. Via accessible lyrics she lets listeners know… If she wants to, “sleep all day and party all night”, there is no one that can stop her. She is here to live her best life.

Can`t disagree with that attitude! Y’all dig “Stay Good”? Is this a contender for a summer 2018 anthem or even Song of the Summer?? Let us know in the comment section or on social media.
