In case you ain’t knowing, Anderson was one of the new artists from Dr. Dre‘s Compton soundtrack album.
Recent events have inspired Brooklyn MC, Yasiin Bey (but he’ll always be Mos Def to me, sue me) back into the booth to write this screed in support of global grassroots activism online and beyond.

And speaking of Ty Dolla $ign, this new track “LA” from his 7 track FreeEP drop, Free TC featuring Kendrick Lamar is kind of epic. The rest of the EP (a preview to a full length album of the same name dropping tomorrow??), featuring Future, Fetty Wap, Rae Sremmurd, Babyface and E-40 ain’t bad either. This was a surprise, unannounced drop at the end of last week and it’s actually pretty good (but should be surprised? After all, I did like The Saga Continues… and even Last Train to Paris).
MMM is a concept project about a fictional uptown hustler, named, Money Making Mitch (loosely inspired by Combs’ own hustler father, Melvin Combs, I wonder??) that kind of sounds like an NY take on how I imagine Dr. Dre’s mythical, long delayed, now-shelved hit-man concept album Detox might’ve be been formatted. Guess, we’ll never know now though, huh?
The album, with cover art photography by legendary photographer, Annie Leibovitz, features a nice mix of the old and new school: The Lox (a welcome return), Lil Kim, Pusha T, Future, Big Sean, French Montana, Travis Scott, Wiz Khalifa, Ty Dolla $ign and uptown DJ legend, Brucie B. Apparently this free album drop is a prelude to an album titled, No Way Out 2, a follow-up to his classic, post-death of Biggie, multi-platinum selling, debut album of the same name. Will it be as well-received as that album was twenty (gulp!) years ago??! We’ll see….

Missy Elliott is currently CRUSHING the internet with this new song and great video featuring long-time collaborator, Pharrell Williams. Who wouldn’t love this??! Vintage Missy and pure hip-hop in the truest sense of the term.
