[Audio] The bbe Laid Back Mix Series pres. the Boddhi Satva – Africa Mixtape

Boddhi Satva – Africa by Laid Back on Mixcloud

This is nice! Peep the science here:

Hailing from Central African Republic, Boddhi Satva vowed early in his career to make a statement through a signature sound of his own. Ancestral Soul was born.

Boddhi’s debut album INVOCATION is available now on BBE Records, after it was released in Africa in 2011 by Vega Records, the label of the legendary Louie Vega. Louie hand-picked Boddhi in 2008 to be an elite producer for Vega Records and resident of Vega DJ tours. INVOCATION confirms the solid place that Boddhi established for himself in the house music landscape.

In Case You Missed It: The SoulJazz Orchestra – Freedom No Go Die (FULL Album Stream)

Canadian afrobeat/future soul act, The SoulJazz Orchestra just released their excellent latest album, Rising Sun last year but in case you’re not familiar with them, check out a bandcamp stream of their album previous to that one, Freedom No Go Die right here:

Here’s the official plug:

When a band is called The Souljazz Orchestra, there is a certain expectation to uphold that name and to provide a sound that accompanies such a title; this band accomplishes just that and more. Hailing from Ottawa, The Souljazz Orchestra combine jazz, funk, African and Latin music while touching on politics and spirituality. Think – James Brown meets up with Tito Puente and they all hook up to jam at Fela Kuti‘s house.

Their versatile sound is in part due to the diverse musical backgrounds of the band’s individual members: jazz, funk, blues, reggae, classical, and traditional Cuban, Brazilian and West African percussion. The Souljazz Orchestra are known for their captivating live shows and have collaborated with notable artists such as Beautiful Nubia and Mighty Popo and have opened up for Etta James, Sharon Jones & the Dap-Kings, Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and more.

With one critically acclaimed album under their belt, the Souljazz Orchestra are back with their second album Freedom No Go Die, this high-energy release focuses mainly on afro beat music and features the vocals of Mighty Popo, Alanna Stuart and Marielle Rivard. The album is already creating a buzz on the dancefloor jazz scene and receiving worldwide attention. But it’s the track ‘Mista President’ that is blowing up the spot! The single has been getting mad support and airplay by the likes of Gilles Peterson, Spiritual South and Dom Servini. With its raw blaring horns, dusty keyboards, storming percussion and conscious lyrics it’s no surprise this funky, up-tempo afro beat killer was voted the number 9 ‘Track of the year 2006’ on the Gilles Peterson’s “Worldwide” radio show on BBC Radio One, before its official release on Do Right Music.”

New Music: Gilles Peterson Presents Worldwide – A Celebration Of His Syndicated Radio Show

Gilles Peterson, Worldwide, BBC, Photobucket

“Music lover, record collector, DJ, broadcaster… Perhaps most famous for his much loved genre-exploding radio shows on BBC Radio 1 (and 17 other stations around the world including Japan’s leading commercial station J-Wave), Gilles Peterson’s insatiable appetite for new music undoubtedly lies at the heart of his success. Worldwide is 10 years young and fresher than ever – a benchmark for broadcasters the world over.

Ten years in the making, this compilation is a tribute to a truly groundbreaking show, music and a serious music personality who is ahead of the curve and debuts awesome records on his show before anyone else. Gilles Peterson is a truly revered international club and radio DJ and one of music’s foremost tastemakers (possibly the most well known in the whole world) in a world dominated by style over substance.

The focus of this compilation is to present to its audience not just a DJ’s favorite selection or songs that stood the test of time but it represents a great collection of songs and grooves premiered on Gilles Peterson’s Worldwide show before any other station in the world. It’s about music that Gilles has helped popularize across the world on his show which is syndicated in 15 countries. It’s a musical journey for DJ’s and radio listeners across the world.

In addition to his Worldwide radio show, Gilles is also the head of Talking Loud Records where he introduced the world to Jamiroquai, Roni Size, 4 Hero, Courtney Pine, Brand New Heavies, Galliano and many more. He was a key founding member of the late 80’s Acid Jazz boom and recently set-up a new record label, Brownswood Recordings, to sign and develop exciting new talent as well as putting on his Worldwide Awards every year in London and the Worldwide festival every summer in the south of France. His compilation albums have become legendary and he continues to be a breath of fresh air on the dance floors of the world playing a unique selection of music that is rarely heard elsewhere.”
