Was playing the Sean Price Imperius Rex album while doing some reviewing as I pick my year-end albums and songs and this came on and made me wistful. RIP, Sean Price and Prodigy.
I’ll admit: I’m crazy late on this like I’m Funkmaster Flex getting roasted by Drake but I didn’t really find out what this record was until I saw this Fader FB post. I was gonna be snarky and say I’d never heard this record once when I was in Bed-Stuy for two weeks a short while back but when I played it, a light bulb went off! What better way to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Super Mario Bros. game than a throwback to Cocoa Bros.‘ “Super Brooklyn” which samples the Mario theme? And what better way to acknowledge this day than this homage to my former New York home borough? Certainly better than considering the ongoing and even more tragic reverberations of those tragic events 14 years ago.
Recent release from the Pro Era crew. Perfect sound for a sunny weekend day.
