A couple tracks from Brooklyn-based pop/R&B artist, Mariami‘s forthcoming full length project. Gutsy move sampling the same James Brown track, “The Payback” as on the Total/Notorious BIG 90s hip-hop/R&B classic, “Can’t You See”!
One for the radio (killer), “Slow It Down” by The Dream featuring Fabolous:
and one for the streets, “Only Life I Know” with bubbling Brooklyn rapper, Troy Ave.:
And as a bonus, hit the jump for one more from Troy Ave. …
Young gunner from BK who also goes by the full nom de hip-hop of The Astronomical Kid. I’m giving this kid extra props just for using the same sample as The Artifacts on their classic 90s underground joint, “Wrong Side of the Tracks.”
I wouldn’t normally post a fashion brand EPK like this but I did happen to watch it and I respect where they’re coming from aesthetic and business-wise (all American-made!). Plus I really dug the last track they used, “5891” by Com Truise so I figured, “WTF?” and decided to post both here since I missed posting anything yesterday (Thursday) due to work commitments. Enjoy and good night!
The anti–Django anthem? Track from the Skyzoo album A Dream Deferred, produced by Tall Black Guy. Cats still sleeping on Skyzoo?
