MP3 Stream: Pomp&Clout Mix #10 – Catchy Bashment by Nick Catchdubs
From the homie, Nick:
“The first time I heard dancehall, it sounded like Black Moon. I learned about this whole world of music from DJ blends and Mad Lion. However, this isn’t a ’94 throwback mix – just a collection of new and old jams that capture the same kind of feelings for me.
I play reggae and dancehall all the time, but this is the first mix I ever put together that’s devoted to it. People have really been pushing techno car alarm vibes in di dance lately – which is fine when done right, but I only need one Major Lazer, not thirty Minor ones. Crazy shit happens at lower BPMs too.
Bugged out, thugged out, plain old smoked out – here’s my digital dancehall rap tape, I hope you enjoy it. (Special shout out to Salaam Remi and Federation Sound.)”

From the Toronto homie, top DJ and former real soul record label impresario, Paul E. Lopes, one of the residents at the long-running monthly T.dot party Bump N Hustle, come a couple rare groove, slow jam mixes he actually did at least a couple years ago (as far as Vol. 1 goes, that is) that are prefect if you haven’t gotten your Valentine’s Evening activities crackin’ yet. Throw these on and leave a comment thanking me tomorrow morning for the best night of your life you’re about to have with your girl.
Apologies for the semi-cheesy, semi-NSFW (?) pic accompanying the great music though. Paul didn’t do any artwork for them. As he put it: “There’s no artwork for these mixes, they’re meant to be enjoyed with eyes closed…” Nuff said! His explanation also applies to why there’s no track list for Vol. 1 either (update: nope, it was actually HERE after all). Stop nerding out and just PLAY THE DAMN MUSIC!

From the homie and fellow Connoisseur of Culture, Benhameen just for V-Day:
“Well it’s been a long year since I dropped the critically acclaimed and publicly loved Anatomy Of A Broken Heart so I guess you could call this the sequel to that mixtape. This one is more of a journey through an actual relationship, from initially meeting someone and that feeling that this could be the one, to the dating and the getting to know the other person, to the courting and the loving that comes with it, to the struggles and heartache, the breakups and the reconciliations, and finally the realization that it was fate that brought you together in the first place. Sit back with a significant other, or ride around town bumping this until you find that special someone, and enjoy this audio journey through life and love. The low quality stream is available above and the download links to the high quality stuff is after that little more button. Happy Valentines Day, every days the fourteenth.”
Amen!

Nice! Some of you young ‘uns might only know the name Charlie Wilson as the government name for Uncle Charlie, a frequent recent collaborator of Kanye West on his recently acclaimed My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy album and G.O.O.D. Friday series of free tracks at the end of last year. But before that, this veteran performer had a long legacy of great funk/R&B music with the Gap Band that has been well-appreciated and sampled by the hip hop creative community as this DJ Synapse mixtape ably demonstrates. Peep game:
