[News] Toronto Rapper P. Reign Pleads Not Guilty to Gun Charges

A Toronto rapper who has toured with global hip hop phenom Drake is hoping a judge will soon clear him of gun possession charges that have prevented him from travelling outside Canada.

Wearing a suit and tie — minus his signature large pendant — Raynford Humphrey, a.k.a. P. Reign, pleaded not guilty Monday to nine firearms-related offences in Ontario Superior Court.

His lawyer, Edward Greenspan, is asking the judge hearing the case without a jury to stay the charges on the grounds police committed numerous Charter violations after they stopped Humphrey driving his Cadillac CTS three years ago.

Humphrey’s brother Jason, who was in the back seat, and Raymond Powell, a passenger in the front, have pleaded guilty to possessing three semi-automatic pistols.

The location of the guns will be the “sole issue” at trial, Crown attorney Ryan Wilson told Justice Michael Code who is first hearing evidence on the Charter application.

Toronto police Const. Oliver Ho testified Monday that early March 8, 2008, he noticed a Cadillac stopped at a red light had an expired January 2008 validation sticker. Ho said he pulled it over as a “routine traffic stop” under the Highway Traffic Act.”

Sounds like more of that usual Police DWB f-ckery. In my hood, indeed!

This week’s topics: the Oscars, some wack Rihanna-Ciara twitter beef, that controversial abortion billboard ad in Soho, Charlie Sheen (who HLN were OD-ing on crazy today while I was watching) and more discussion of some really bad black reality TV shows that Jeff & Angelique don’t even really seem to want to watch!

I know I’m late on this but they spent practically the whole show talking about wack BET reality shows I never watch and based on their reaction to them, that they don’t even really wanna watch either! I’m sure this upcoming week they’ll be talking about this debacle (so far) of an Oscars!

Third edition of the homie Sledge’s new podcast with music publishing vet, Angelique Miles. Of course, they get into some talk about the Grammys, Valentine’s Day and more about BET reality shows I’ve never watched! Glad to see people agreed with me on Cee-Lo‘s Grammy performance though. Let son live! When has dude ever conformed to the ‘norms’ of the often staid urban music industry anyway? Do y’all remember those Gnarls Barkley promo shots?

Music industry vets Jeff Sledge and Angelique Miles in the second installment of their new entertainment and pop culture podcast speak on the Black Eyed Peas half-time show and Christina Augilera’s national anthem flub at the Super Bowl, the AOL-Huff Post deal, Halle Berry’s recent f-ckery, the ‘Who Do You Think You Are?’ TV show, Black History Month, and ‘Speaking White.’ And speaking of that last issue, I had the same experience as Taylor the intern when many people met or talked to me (listen to the podcast). I feel ya, girl!

I also co-sign the homie, Sledge on the Halle situation but he gets the gasface for not knowing Garret Morgan invented the traffic signal, especially as an OG hip hop head who’s also a veteran employee of Jive records, the long-time label home of KRS-One and BDP“You Must Learn”!
