#OldManRap – I love it!
[via Unkut]
An almost completely different version of Run-DMC‘s classic “Peter Piper” at Peoples Club Paddington, London in 1986 with DJ Jam Master Jay killing the Bob James‘ “Take Me to the Mardi Gras” breakbeat live. “F-ck Michael Jackson and his bullsh-t Thriller…” I bet Rev. Run is regretting that line now! This is f-cking EPIC nonetheless though. Props to Random Rap Radio once again.
Long time readers know London Posse is probably my all-time favorite hip-hop group from the UK. I still rate Rodney P and Bionic more than most MCs coming from that side of the world even today. Hearing this freestyle, where they go raw dog over the “I Get Lifted” breakbeat, reminds me of how good they were and the roots of what hip-hop sued to be. Dig this? Listen to all three tracks from this session London Posse did for BBC Radio’s Janice Long back in 1987 HERE.
This has apparently been floating around online for some time but is still pretty amazing. A rare look at an early version of one of the Golden Era’s greatest musical moments. Shout to NYC DJ, Lord Sear for bringing this to my attention via my soundlcoud stream. Hearing this makes me think Trinidad James was right! Don’t be mad, Maino….
This is EPIC! KRS-One is one of the legends and architects of modern hip-hop. This archival piece is absolutely essential. Peep Robbie from Unkut who posted this first on it:
Holy shit… Kenny Parker finally got around to ripping some of those old tapes of KRS-One rapping over breakbeats courtesy of DJ Scott La Rock and Kool DJ Red Alert , as he told us about back in 2006. While there was no sign of the one with the dog barking over Kris’ verse, there’s an incredible ‘La Di Da Di’ style track which I’ve never heard before that will make your year.
and legendary 90’s hip-hop music industry habitue, Dante Ross, whose Facebook page I discovered this on, talking about this also:
This is unbelievable A very young KRSONE killing it over Funky Drummer, Ladidadi, The Meters, the spread love drums and more. My question is who made these beats and why weren’t these records? This is like the rap holy grail….
