We’re pretty big fans of Big K.R.I.T. here at The Kitchen. We think Cadillactica was an underrated, overlooked masterpiece and the It’s Better This Way mixtape he dropped in 2015 was just as fantastic and should have been released as a proper commercial album but we know he was going through it with his label (Def Jam) at the time.
Only been through this new album barely one and half times so far but it sounds good. We look forward to being able to give it the proper attention it deserves….
People used to laugh at me when I said the two most influential MC’s on contemporary hip-hop were Soulja Boy and Lil B. I wonder if people looked back at the first song that went viral for Soulja Boy, “I Got Me Some Bapes” if they would agree that it’s kind of obvious now or not? Either way, here go a couple tracks from his just-released, King Soulja VI mixtape including an update on that seminal track called, “Bathing Apes.”
“The new racism, is to deny that racism exists….”
Good to see T.I. getting so conscious in this part of his career. His discussion of the influence of hip-hop on so-called “Black-on-Black” crime on The Daily Show was amazing also.
We’ve long been fans of ATL Blacktronica (we’re still trying to figure out what to call their music, besides good) crew, WatchTheDuck. Whatever the appropriate name for it, we think it’s the future of Black Music and apparently, with T.I. and Pharrell co-executive producing their forthcoming just released EP release, The Trojan Horse, they feel just as strongly about it!
Previously on The Kitchen:
– WatchTheDuck – Making Luv To The Beat (feat. T.I. & DJ E-Feezy)
Three years ago, I first introduced Kitchen readers to the ATL urban alternative trapstep crew, Watch the Duck and said they’d blow up (BTW: I made that up that name for their music, I actually have no idea what they really call it, but if you don’t get a sense of where they’re coming from musically based on that description, I don’t know what to tell you!).
Since then they’ve dropped an incredible mixtape and linked up with T.I., and Pharrell who are co-executive producing their forthcoming official debut full length release. I’d say based on this first single from it and their career trajectory so far, that my prediction is a safe bet to happen. Agree?
