MP3 Stream (no download): Raphael Saadiq – Stone Rollin’ by Hypetrak
Visual for the latest throwback R&B track from Raphael Saadiq. Dude is super-official. Don’t argue, just accept it….
“Released in March of 2005, Beanie Sigel‘s The B. Coming stands as the titular bookend of Roc-A-Fella Records’ Dynasty Era. Recorded between Sigel’s guilty verdict and his trip up north, The B. Coming highlights the meshing of the Philly emcee’s Biggie-like swagger with Scarface‘s patented paranoia rap. Despite the wide array of guest artists, the album is nonetheless a personal narrative of a man in solitude, expressing his existential qualms. Sigel’s diary scripts are well-accompanied by the record’s sound spectrum of 70s and 80s soul and rock. Production highlights include the sampling of Raphael Ravenscroft and Klaus Doldinger‘s wailing saxophones on the respective tracks “Feel It in the Air” and “Tales of a Hustler Pt. 2”, Natalie Cole‘s sweet crooning on “Oh Daddy”, and the string arrangement of David Crawford on René & Angela‘s “My First Love”, lifted by Ty Fyffe for the Rell-assisted “Change”. The album concludes with a harrowing re-imagining of Bon Jovi‘s “Wanted Dead or Alive” as Sigel ponders life on the lam. Enjoy this sample set to one of my favorite albums of the aughts. Turn it up!!”
Co-sign Ivan on this one. The B.Coming was definitely one of my favorite albums and I still think it stands as one of the great underrated hip-hop albums of the last decade.

From Roger Bong:
“Showing his appreciation for one of the greatest vocal acts of all time, producer Roger Bong (RogB) builds upon Blue Magic’s self-titled LP to create new music founded in the same smooth and honest sound.
Ode to Blue Magic is not a collection of remixes or versions, but an album inspired by the group’s classic 1974 debut album, Blue Magic.”

[Enter Roger Bong]
“It’s hard to do justice for something so near perfection. But I tried. I must be insane to think I could stumble upon something like this—in truth this could never be as real as i want it. But I tried… What’s come over me?
Ode to Blue Magic.
You see, Blue Magic’s 1974 debut has gone through some changes. I’ve never been to heaven, but I’ve spent the night with Blue…and it always feels so alive, young and infinite. It’s truly Magic. After playing their album countless times, I just kept on wondering how I could show my respect for such a beautiful record. So here it is. There’s nothing wrong with your ears, they aren’t deceiving you. This is Ode to Blue Magic, and it’s my way of showing appreciation to one of the greatest soul groups of all time.”
