Another of my favorites from the CBC Music Searchlight process plus their latest release. Soclose‘s Searchlight entry reminded me somewhat of Kelela and did pretty well making it to the regional finals and the national finals considering it was some cool-ass, left-field electronic soul music. Wish they had made it to the next and final stage but only four could. Do you agree with the ones who made it though?

Here’s another act I discovered through CBC Searchlight. This is a perfect example of an act that belies some people’s complaints that CBC is not trying to champion left-field, more underground music in this contest. Really??! Some people will never be convinced despite all evidence to the contrary.

Another loosie, this one by Brampton native, TOBi, from the end of last year!
Fresh off the campaign for his debut EP, ‘FYi’, TOBi is back with a one-off single titled ‘LiBRA’.
“Being a Libra, we are prone to wanting to live in harmony with others and we have a deep love for life and people. I wanted to challenge our ideas of modern masculinity with this record, and allow myself to be vulnerable as a romantic. In the “swipe left, swipe right” paradigm we currently live in, human connection sometimes seems disposable. My wish is that “LiBRA” consoles those people who still believe in romance.” – TOBi

Dug the EP. This new one is giving me a bit of an Anderson .Paak vibe but it’s straight!

Sorry, I’ve been incognito. Been working on this (more on that later…) Gonna try and be a bit more on my DK game. First off, song’s been out for like forever, but here’s a ‘new’ video from Toronto’s River Tiber for this track from his excellent Indigo album.

My boy dj NaNa (you should know his name from his group, The Names Are Known‘s track on the 2014 #DK11 comp) pulled this unreleased remix of Ciara‘s “Body Party” by him and eMDee (under the name, Quincy’s Crate) out of the stash a couple weeks and let me know about it, so here it is for your enjoyment. Tell us what you think of it: drop a comment or Tweet / Facebook us!
