This dropped a while back but I never had a chance to post it. This was the first track to drop from a compilation, the debut full length release titled Saint Heron from Solange Knowles new Saint Records label which was officially released yesterday. The comp features Sampha, Jhene Aiko, Cassie and of course, Solange who we’ve long been supporters of here at the Kitchen. It’s also on Kelela‘s own Cut 4 Me mixtape which you can listen to in full HERE.

Nice soul track with an Oh No remix that gives it a feel that is trawling a line somewhere between vintage throwback, go-go and boom bap which is no easy thing to do from my pov! Nice….
Fresh off her Polaris short list nomination, where as a Grand Jury member I was rooting for her to win (to no avail unfortunately, Zaki Ibrahim takes the shine from that accolade to bring her live show to the people with friend of the Kitchen, underground soul phenom (and an award winner in his own right), Brendan Philip opening. Should be a good one! Not knowing? Then check out some music by both artists:

Frankly, I’ve heard better from one of Toronto’s more promising new artists but maybe other will disagree?
