Speaking of Tensei, he had a hand in producing some of the new album, New World Lullabies by Kitchen favorite, ‘urban-progressive’, elctro-soul singer, Cilla K. Check it out and tell me what you think….

[music video] Carl Thomas – Don’t Kiss Me feat. Snoop Dogg (+ Cosmic Kev freestyle)

Download Snoop Dogg SNOOP FREESTYLE COME UP

This Carl Thomas video/song is pretty generic (well maybe not generic but pretty meh) but I posted it mostly as an excuse to post this AMAZING Snoop Dogg freestyle from the Cosmic Kev Come Up Radio Show on Power 99 in Philly. Snoop is a TRUE MC who is way underrated. Listen to this and tell me, Snoop shouldn’t be in everyone’s Top 10 between his amazing catalog of music and raw MC-ing ability. Freestyling like this 20 years into the game still??! SALUTE!!!!

BTW: how has Snoop never won a Grammy??! F-cking TRAVESTY!!! Another reason why I shouldn’t bother watching them tonight….

Bonus:

Snoop x VICE at The Playboy Mansion for the Project X film which is a f-cking crazy movie!

R.I.P. Whitney Elizabeth Houston: 1963 – 2012

What can you say in response to this tragic news today? She’s an icon and a legend. Let us celebrate her legacy and artistic greatness rather than dwell in sadness and focus on this immense loss. Between not being able to find an official video version of her signature song “I Will Always Love You” and it being Saturday we’re gonna take it to the dancefloor to do so instead though. Enjoy….

[Music Video] The Slakadeliqs feat. Justin Nozuka – Keep Breathing from The Other Side of Tomorrow

This is pretty much the only album, besides Common’s, that I have played on repeat since end of last year. I was a major fan of Slakah‘s two projects last year, Art of Fresh‘s When the Night… and his solo Something Forever album and (probably unrealistically in hindsight) lobbied hard for both to make the Polaris Music Prize long list because I think the dude’s a genius and an under-appreciated treasure here in Toronto.

Both of those albums were amazing, beautifully-produced, cohesive, quality works. Now this Slakadeliqs album shows they were no fluke either. Other Side of Tomorrow is as good a piece of music as anything coming out of London, Philly, Detroit, LA or any other scenes that are known for their progressive beat-oriented, urban music sounds. Soul, pop and psychedelia all mixed up in a beautiful stew. This is worth everyone’s time. Check it out:
