[UPDATE: tonight’s show has been CANCELLED until further notice so the contest has been suspended]
Yes, we may have sadly lost the Godfather of House but the Godfather of Grime is playing a special show TONIGHT at the Hoxton here in downtown Toronto. Wanna go? Follow me on twitter at @Stellaskid (so I can DM you in the event that you win) then tweet:
“Hey @Stellaskid: I wanna see at @WileyUpdates TONIGHT (Apr. 2) at @The_Hoxton” [note: you do not need to include the quotes when you tweet the contest message]
I will select a winner (or two) at 6PM. Want more info? CLICK HERE. And as a bonus, check out his most recent single & video, “And Again” featuring God’s Gift which was show shot right here in Toronto too where apparently, Wiley spends a grip of time nowadays (in Scarborough, the “Brooklyn of Toronto” according to Ian Kamau or is it the Harlem??)! Who knew??!
“Tile Hill is where I rep…”
Yes, this kid is from my birth town of Coventry. He’s not bad, Aisle 9 is a decent first effort at a mixtape album by such a young artist although his flow can be a tad clunky at times. He’s got pretty solid songwriting instincts for a newcomer though so hopefully he’ll improve as he continues to work on his craft on future music. I’m mostly posting about this here on the blog though because track 4 on Aisle 9, “Faith” features my cousin, Mya May Graham and, no bias on this, I think she sounds great!
Agree and like what you hear? CLICK HERE to listen to the entire Aisle 9 mixtape album.
Latest from the UK MD/MC (can’t believe he hasn’t done something around that title!) You know he’s a smart cookie ‘cos he makes references to Hegel in his rhymes! Chima goes in over one of my favorite tracks, Mount Kimbie‘s “Before I Move Off.” Hit the jump for the lyrics.
Previously on The Kitchen:
– Chima Anya – Hey feat. Sincere [Music Video]
– Chima Anya – Unresolved [Mixtape]
– Chima Anya – Never Know (Dorian Concept Sketch) [MP3]
Audego are new favorites here at the Kitchen. This is a hip-hop remix of their “From Blue” single. Check out their whole album though, it’s amazing! I really rate this duo. There’s a reason I jumped out the window and called them the new Portishead. Now go listen and see if I know what the hell I’m talking about!
Regular readers know I’m a massive fan of this UK MC. I dig this track but maybe not quite as much as previous material. Sounds like he’s been listening to some Chance The Rapper, no??
