‘Toronto Sound’ like a motherf-cker and signed to Def Jam!
Known this woman from the day hustle and working on CBC Searchlight which she was a finalist for last year and when she also did a First Play Live session later in the year. Check out her See No Evil EP which she released in March of this year. Look for more new music from WILL in conjunction with the Kitchen coming in the near future. More info on this very soon…
Very Drake-feeling but very good track by a new (to us) singer from The 6ix. More info from the official press blurb:
Today marks the much anticipated industry-wide release of Notifi‘s “Won’t Get Lonely” video which just premiered on Noisey. The Toronto-based rapper, producer and crooner introduces his crisp beats, blitzed-out production, and unique view on life with his debut video directed by Zac Facts (Tory Lanez, Future, 88 Glam, Sean Leon). The vivid, stimulating and romantic images create a densely textured visual palette that blends seamlessly with the songs infectious blend of rap, dark pop and R&B.
Alongside his manager and executive producer, globetrotting DJ Charlie B, the Montreal-born Notifi who grew up in the Scarborough area of Toronto, is looking to help bring his Farewell crew – a brand and upcoming label which represents the idea of ascension – to a better place. The 24-year-old is currently working on his debut EP, set for release in Fall 2018.
Latest dancefloor burner from Canada’s Shay Lia with Kaytranada and, after the jump, “What’s Your Problem?”, a joint they did together from a year ago.
From the Rippps’s Hue EP that dropped August 3 via Alpha Pup Records:
Since it’s Collaboration Week on RBMA, we’re thrilled to host the premiere of a new musical partnership between two Academy alumni. Dutch keyboardist and pianist Niels Broos and UK electronic music producer Hyroglifics first met at RBMA Montréal in 2016 and are now coming together as Rippps for an EP on Alpha Pup Records. The record’s title track, “Hue,” is emblematic for its kaleidoscopic, rubbery bounce, blending slick synth work with deft electronics. You can hear the influence that working with RBMA studio team member Thundercat had on the duo. As Broos recalls: “He is one of my musical heroes. I remember him walking around the studios and sometimes he would come in and start vibing with us. I found this super inspiring. It also gave me some healthy nerves that made me push my musical ideas a lot. Jamming with him also gave me a lot of new musical ideas, and since he’s such a genuinely funny dude, it made us remember to also put humor in our music – something that I feel you can hear in the EP. Some of the songs are so over the top in their quirkiness, it’s almost funny at some points.”
