Dr. Dre x Snoop Dogg Video Faceoff: Kush vs. Nuthin’ But A G Thang
I was musing on this via twitter a couple days ago: here’s the new video by Dr. Dre, Snoop Dogg & Akon for the official first single (aka the only single that hasn’t stiffed so far?) from the long-delayed, now almost mythic Detox album:
“The video for “Kush,” the first single from Detox featuring Snoop Dogg and Akon premiered yesterday (Friday, December 10th) on Vevo.com.
About the track “Kush,” which is available now, Dre says. “It’s a fun song, it’s hot and people seem to be loving it and that’s an exciting thing because I know if people are loving this song they’re going to really get into the record because this is just the tip of the iceberg.”
The Joseph Kahn directed video finds Dr. Dre and Snoop Dogg in yet another classic video collaboration but Dre says” “It’s not like ‘getting together with Snoop again,’ we always stay in touch and Snoop is like my little brother so this is just what we do.”
Snoop Dogg agrees: “Dr Dre, that’s my big homeboy, that’s my big brother. He gave me my start. so whenever he calls me to come through and do what I need to I’m there for him. Akon’s part of the family too so this is what we do, we just make great music.”
Now compare that to the debut single, “Nuthin’ But A G Thang” from the legendary hip hop classic, The Chronic:
Then just marinate on the difference between those two songs (I’m not even gonna get into “Deep Cover”!) and where they may lie relative to each other on either the scale of hip hop awesomeness or hip hop authenticity (take your pick….)
Still excited for Detox??! I will say this, at least: I’d like to see a ‘Making of’ doc about the “Kush” video because technically, it looks amazing!
