Last vibes for the (late) night from Toronto’s GIRV. RIYL Soulection, Elaquent etc.
This track by Toronto’s Kelsey Vaz is already making some noise. When you hear it, you’ll quickly understand why. Solid track….
This is actually kind of old (6 months) but discovered it by accident while watching videos by Claire Mortifee for the last post. Let me just say this: that is NOT the visual (or, frankly, the artist, despite some precedent) I would have predicted for this song. Dope though! Bonus remix by The Xtraordinaire$ after the jump…
Here’s the video for the latest single, “Panther Paws” from West Coast soul singer, Claire Mortifee‘s Medicines album which, if you dig the single, is available for you to listen to in FULL via stream above also.
I’d recommend it, it’s a decent listen. As a very rough comparison, I’d say it’s RIYL fellow Canadian soulsters, Zaki Imbrahim and Esthero (her bio calls her vocals “inspired by Amy Winehouse and Erykah Badu” and a sound “reminiscent of Tove Lo“). Her music with Vancouver’s Potatohead People, who also produced the second single from the album, “Shanghigh” is pretty good too. I’d post the video for that but it felt a little culturally fetishistic to my eyes so I’m taking a pass but you can watch it HERE if you’re curious to see what I’m talking about.

First single from ace Toronto DJ, Mel Boogie‘s forthcoming album, The L.I.F.E. Project featuring 6ix MC’s, Keysha Freshh, Lola Bunz and Lady J alongside Jersey’s finest, the incomparable Rah Digga on a track produced by Tone Mason.
