Here’s another act I discovered through CBC Searchlight. This is a perfect example of an act that belies some people’s complaints that CBC is not trying to champion left-field, more underground music in this contest. Really??! Some people will never be convinced despite all evidence to the contrary.

Salute all these ladies from The 6ix, rappers, Haviah Mighty, Keysha Freshh, Lex Leosis and pHoenix Pagliacci and singer, Leila Dey, for putting this together for release last week to celebrate international Women’s Day. I like the energy and spirit in this. Here’s the inspiration in case you ain’t knowing (true story: I had a small hand in the creation of that original, btw….)

Came across this Ottawa rapper, JC while working on CBC’s Searchlight project. Thought he was super dope and might go further in the process than he did but alas, it was not to be. Still, tell me this ain’t some pretty flawless young boy, swag rap from the production and songwriting to the fantastic video, right??

New Goldlink featuring Kitchen favorite, Jazmine Sullivan and produced by Kaytranda??! YES PLEASE!

Another loosie, this one by Brampton native, TOBi, from the end of last year!
Fresh off the campaign for his debut EP, ‘FYi’, TOBi is back with a one-off single titled ‘LiBRA’.
“Being a Libra, we are prone to wanting to live in harmony with others and we have a deep love for life and people. I wanted to challenge our ideas of modern masculinity with this record, and allow myself to be vulnerable as a romantic. In the “swipe left, swipe right” paradigm we currently live in, human connection sometimes seems disposable. My wish is that “LiBRA” consoles those people who still believe in romance.” – TOBi

Dug the EP. This new one is giving me a bit of an Anderson .Paak vibe but it’s straight!
