[MP3 Premiere] Shan Vincent de Paul – Stand By Me

The Kitchen is psyched to premiere another amazing song by one of our (near) hometown artists, Shan Vincent de Paul.

Some of you who are all about discovering great new music may already be familiar with him from singles off his two previous albums like “The Sacred”, “Light” or “B*tch Go”, that third track which we featured here on the site in November of last year.

We actually have even more history with this Sri Lankan-Canadian, Brampton-based artist because, as part of my day hustle at CBC Music, I had a large hand in booking the excellent First Play Live session he did for them for the release of his second album, the 2017 Trigger Happy Heartbreak earlier this year.

“Stand By Me” is de Paul’s latest single and it is set for official release TOMORROW (June 22).

Dig “Stand By Me”? Pre-save it on Spotify HERE. (note: that link will turn into the smart url to access the single on any of your favorite streaming sites upon the release tomorrow, Friday).

[Album Stream] Matthew Chaim – Homemade (EP)

New EP from Montreal artist, Matthew Chaim. The Homemade EP is super, super dope, think Kid Cudi meets Roy Woods (or Frank Ocean) for a rough idea of what this sounds like. Here’s Matthew on the EP:

Homemade is about growing up. Actually, it’s about growing up slowly and that being perfectly okay. It’s taken me time to realize – and not just realizing it mentally, but understanding it deep in my bones – that growth is a lifelong process. I am 28 years old now, but in a lot of ways I still feel like that kid on the EP cover. If one thing is taken away from these songs, let it be that your particular process of becoming who you are is completely and utterly yours. Nobody else’s. The best version of you, just like the best food, is always homemade.

You can also check out the EP on TIDAL, Spotify and Apple Music.

[MP3 + Music Video] Mazzi 500 – Swervin

Video from a new (to us, at least) Toronto rapper named Mazzi 500. Peep the PR science:

Toronto rapper, Mazzi 500 takes a nostalgic look at his past in debut music video, “Swervin” in anticipation of his upcoming project, The Seizure, dropping July 16, 2018.

“Swervin,” directed by Telesca, represents more than its grooving beat and catchy hook. For Mazzi 500, it is a reflection on a simpler time in his past. A time he says many hip-hop enthusiasts across all generations can relate to. A time where youthful arrogance and ambition fueled the hustle and a pursuit of fame and wealth.

Rolling through the streets of Toronto in a BMW 7-series, Mazzi 500, often seen hanging out the side of the window, perfectly embodies his no f*cks given attitude from his youth. “Swervin” comes straight from the streets and features a “mild, aggressive, bass heavy” beat that perfectly accompanies the days spent just “cruising your car,” says Mazzi 500.

The video is all “about speaking my truth,” says Mazzi 500. It is raw and with its sobering use of neutral color and urban imagery, creates an honest representation of youth life and culture in hip-hop.

When asked about the music video Mazzi 500 says, “This song to me represents the days when we didn’t give a f*ck. Sub-textually speaking of drinking and driving. Filled with arrogance a lust for fast money. We were relentless. We had an abundance of passion, aggression and we did what we wanted without thinking of the consequence.”

[MP3 + Music Video] MorMor – Waiting on the Warmth

Great new single by buzzy new Toronto singer, MorMor giving me vague Kid Cudi vibes in part. I think this kid could go! Agree??

Track from his EP, Heaven’s Only Wishful dropping next week (June 22).

[MP3] HONORS – On Again (Best Night Ever Remix)

This is a nice one:

Toronto alt-r&b collective HONORS have revealed an official remix of their Molly Kate Kestner assisted single, “On Again”. Courtesy of Best Night Ever, it finds the producer taking the track to stunning new heights with support from the likes of MrSuicideSheep.

HONORS are also prepared to unveil a new release. Led by an equal parts sleek, sultry, and ultimately infectious single called “X2UO”, it also comes equipped with a thunderous b-side cut called “Control”. The two tracks offer a glimpse at what’s to come on HONORS’ forthcoming debut EP which is slated to drop this fall, not to mention what they’ll bring to the live circuit as they head out on the road in support of NoMBe.

Hit the jump for the original verison of “On Again” too…
