[EP Stream + Music Video] Layla Hendryx – PREEPAID (EP)

Question: why couldn’t Toronto’s Layla Hendryx have been part of the 6ix Rising doc? She not only makes similar music to the artists featured in it but has even worked with some of them. Not knowing about Layla (we won’t lie, we weren’t either), check the science:

Layla Hendryx burst onto the scene in 2015 with her debut EP release “Channel 6” and immediately established her self as an artist to watch. Her genre blending sound infusing elements of hip-hop, R&B and trap caught the attention of fans and critics alike. Her single “B.T.W” was featured on episode 4 of OVO Sound Radio and quickly became a fan favorite off the project, while her music caught the attention of taste making publications such as: The Fader, MTV News, Complex Music and Vice / Noisey among others.

After a short break from releasing music, Layla returned with a 6 song EP titled “PreePaid”. Toronto based producer JMak Beatz, who also produced all of “Channel 6”, produced the EP in its entirety. The new project is a return to Layla’s aggressive lyricism with her signature ability to switch styles and genres effortlessly on tracks. Releasing the first single off the EP, “Livin’ It Up” featuring Pressa in June.

[MP3] OSIYM – Flex (Prod. by Zepfire)

New banger from long-buzzing T.dot crew, OSIYM:

OSIYM’s latest project which is scheduled for release in mid-2018, is entirely produced by Bevstmode producer Zepfire who is known for his work with the likes of Big Sean, G-Easy, Roy Woods and Jimmy Prime.

From the moment that OSIYM and Zepfire discovered each other in a recording session one year ago where Zepfire just so happened to be the scheduled engineer, they all knew in their minds that making music together was a must and that magic was about to happen. All parties involved went into this project wanting to create something they have never created before, with each track being as relatable as a story told to you by your best friend. Sonically, this project is a joyride filled with the energy of a Toronto summer. The lead-off single for the currently untitled project is ‘Flex’.

When you hear the word Flex used in music today it’s usually to describe someone shinin’ and stuntin’ on haters by showing off their status and luxurious possessions. Coming from Toronto that word meant something completely different. It meant making a move to better yourself, planning a strategy for the future or plotting a quick come up. Unfortunately, there are times when that quick come up is being plotted by someone in your circle that’s trying to lead to your downfall. One of OSIYM’s many influences Jadakiss of The LOX once said, “Everybody a snake.. That’s why I try to keep the grass cut, so I can see em’ when they coming.. Then I heat they ass up”. That quote represents exactly what ‘Flex’ is about.

Mid-2018 can’t come soon enough, FIYA!

No disrespect to any of the many other fine rappers in The 6ix right now, but this kid got next!
