Been intrigued by this dude ever since I heard his appearance on the Combat Jack podcast a couple months back. Here he goes over a track flipping the same sample as Jay-Z‘s “Dead Presidents” (hence the song title??)
Long been a fan of Texas MC, Propain. Love this track….

Controversy aside, it’s hard to argue that Big Bank Hank is not a key part of the development of hip-hop music as a commercial proposition. For you youngun’s who’ve grown up in a time where there’s always been hip-hop, “Rapper’s Delight” by Hank’s seminal hip-hop group, the Sugarhill Gang is a major reason why that is a reality today. “Rapper’s Delight” was beyond big. Think of the biggest, hottest record out now and multiply it by at least 10, that’s how massive “Rapper’s Delight” was in its time. Hank’s passing today on Remembrance Day (Veteran’s Day in the US) prematurely from cancer at 57 is sad, sad news indeed. R.I.P.
I actually really like this. From the A Better Tomorrow album dropping in December. 20 years of Wu-Tang, proof that some good stuff still happens in the world….
“It’s alright but it ain’t Ralph though!”
I had this on repeat for most of yesterday (had trouble uploading the artwork though hence why the post is only happening today). Was trying to check out Theophilus London‘s brand new Vibes album yesterday (which is pretty good, BTW) but was still playing just this track an hour later. Ended up dedicating it to the homegirl, Julia LeConte who posted the most beautiful news yesterday and for which this song was totally perfect! #realove
