Finally, something a little more mellow from rapper, Shawn Chrystopher to wind down my super-late night up.
A while back I read this comment on the 2dopeboyz blog about Shawn:
“This kid sounds like a clone of anyone that hot for the moment. first it was kanye, then it was cudi, now its wayne and drake…whats next? nicki minaj? there are too many people rapping with no identity that ya’ll keep cosigning and promoting. what happened to standards?”
As much as I actually dug his A City With No Seasons mixtape album, I have to admit that that is not such an inaccurate assessment of him as an artist. I’m not he’s yet fully established his own unique position or identity in the game yet despite all the music, videos, tours and brand partnership initiatives he’s landed over the past couple years.
Shout to the homie, Ali who just started managing Shawn though. This kid is the quintessential ‘blog rapper’ for the viral/social media era we live in. He has a long track record of having worked at building his profile and ‘brand’ in the new ‘digital underground’, whether it’s been as effective as it could or should have been, so it should be a good case study and interesting to look at how much more success he can garner now that he’s connected with someone from the more ‘traditional’ side of the music industry. Check out his latest mixtape, You, And Only You and tell me what you think though. Can he be the next ’emo,’ blipster rapper to break out of the underground and cross over?

Game MURDERS this. He’s still one of hip hop’s most underrated, IMHO….

If you don’t know why this is AMAZING, I feel sorry for you….
I posted the mp3 back on the old blog but with the the arrival of this video finally, I’m re-posting it and I don’t give a f-ck who has an issue with it. After 19 years, I’m delighted to say: welcome back, guys!

Seeing Skip Bayless doing the Dougie is a scary thing….
Amazing how Cali Swag has caught all the props for the Dougie phenomenon when it originated in Dallas with artists like Lil Will. Oh well, c’est la vie. The all-time best use of the Dougie still in my mind was when the NY Jets’ Braylon Edwards caught a taunting penalty for doing the Dougie after his touchdown catch in the Pats game. LMAO….
