Good to see T.I. getting so conscious in this part of his career. His discussion of the influence of hip-hop on so-called “Black-on-Black” crime on The Daily Show was amazing also.

Bummed I had to miss Anderson .Paak‘s appearance at Manifesto Festival last week for my cousin’s birthday (family first and his party was fantastic) but loving this new track featuring him. This is a new joint from his NxWorries collab project with Knxwledge, “Lyk Dis.” You may be familiar with their track, “Suede” which dropped around the time Paak was about to blow up from his cameos on Dr. Dre‘s Compton album but well before his own superlative, solo release, Malibu which is vying for album of the year status in my books with Rihanna‘s ANTI album right now. BTW: His appearance on Colbert with Mac Miller last week was pretty cool too.

Wiz Khalifa smartly jacks the trendy John Carpenter-inspired theme music from buzz Netflix show, Stranger Things for a track of the same name featuring J.R. Donato (who.he??). It’s actually pretty decent too.

Didn’t get enough KAYTRANADA yet? Check out this recent drop by Goldlink produced by brand new Polaris winner, Kay and short listers from last year, BadBadNotGood. This one is niiiice…..

This is kind of a big deal. This is really the first hip-hop or black electronic/urban-centric release to win this Canadian critics’ award. Well-deserved it is too. While I always liked the album, it took a minute to really grow on me but by time it was down to the wire I was fully on board as the video of me endorsing it above, that played as part of the full Gala broadcast Monday night, attests! Congrats, Kay and for the rest of you not on his train, get on board. This is the future….
