Check out “All Day” the latest drop from Kanye West‘s just announced So Help Me God album featuring Allan Kingdom, Theophilus London & Paul McCartney and created by a cast of thousands (well 19, actually but still…). BTW: apparently what Paul McCartney is whistling at the end is a sample of an unreleased track of his from 1970 called “When The Wind Is Blowing” (according to Stereogum that is). Hit the jump for another track, “Wolves” featuring Sia & Vic Mensa (note: kind of lo-res but still listenable).
The new Sour Soul album by Toronto’s Badbadnotgood and Ghostface (who needs no introudction, I hope!) just dropped yesterday and it’s great. Despite all the hype when they first came out, I was never much of a fan of BBNG but they’ve made a believer out of me of late between the Future Islands ‘Seasons’ remix, the Rubber Tracks show with GFK last week in Toronto (click those links or see the IG video above) and now this album.
BBNG’s all live, cinematic-feeling soul-jazz noir topped with Ghost’s amazing lyricism??! This could have been dialed in or turned out potentially really corny but Sour Soul easily surpasses my expectations. This will certainly be one of my albums of the year for 2015. Here are four tracks from Sour Soul for your previewing pleasure:
BADBADNOTGOOD & Ghostface Killah – Ray Gun (feat. DOOM):
BADBADNOTGOOD & Ghostface Killah – Street Knowledge (Feat. Tree):
BADBADNOTGOOD & Ghostface Killah – Six Degrees (feat. Danny Brown):
BADBADNOTGOOD & Ghostface Killah – Sour Soul:
Dig those (and you should if you have any sense or real taste!)? Then check out the entire Sour Soul album HERE.
What can I or do I need to say about this? Drizzy damn near broke the internet when he surprise dropped this album last week. Toronto, stand up!
Beyonce, J. Cole, D’Angelo, Drake… I’m loving these no hype album drops. It’s proof the old music industry model for releasing and promising albums is dead? Or is it?

Full disclosure: I used to clown this kid when he first came out. I was not much of a fan but he made a believer out of me. First track, “Used To” featuring the kid, Drizzy Drake.
Don’t say The Kitchen never hooked you up! After the ticket giveaway contest for this past weekend’s amazing Diamond D show, here goes yet another contest for what should be a great show.
Artist/activist Talib Kweli, one half of the legendary Black Star duo with Mos Def, Reflection Eternal with Cincinnati DJ/Producer, Hi-Tek and an outstanding solo artist in his own right, will be in town this Friday (Feb. 20) to perform live at Rockpile West. Surprised he’s playing there but this is a great opportunity to see a top-tier MC like Kweli in a more intimate venue and we’re giving away a single pair of tickets for it! Want a chance at winning them? Just do the following:
1. Follow me on twitter at @Stellaskid (necessary so I can DM you in the event that you win)
2. Tweet the following message exactly: “Hey @Stellaskid: I wanna win tickets to see @TalibKweli live at @RockpileClub in Toronto on Feb. 20” (note: no quotation marks needed, just the message inside the quotation marks is fine)
Simply RT-ing any tweets I do promoting this contest does NOT enter you to win. The contest will close at 12 noon EST on Friday (Feb. 20). The winner will be notified via twitter DM. Winner will also be responsible for their own transportation to the show.
