Be clear: trap music is the punk rock of the new millennia. It’s visceral, raw, noisy, offensive, simple, catchy, kids love it and older people hate it (yup, pretty much all the boxes checked there except maybe political/social thematic concerns). And Smokepurpp is probably one of the best practitioners of a particularly raw and grimy strain of turn up, trap. With an assist for Canada’s Murda Beatz (producer for French Montana, Gucci Mane etc.), he’s dropped a worthy follow-up to his debut album, Deadstar with the just released (a couple weeks ago) Bless Yo Trap.

Is Nicki back in the convo or is Cardi still reigning supreme? (Or is it the height of sexism to pit the two against one another in this way to begin with??)

Some of you may remember DJ Critical Hype, formerly of MTL but now based in Vancouver, from his Chance The Dropout Mixtape from two years ago. Now he’s back with, yes, Kendrick vocals blended over Dre beats on this a 23 track blend tape featuring Kendrick Lamar lyricism blended over Dr. Dre iconic, legendary beats. P+P premiered it and the buzz has spread quickly ever since.
