“God is good, God is great!”
Always happy to support friend of the Kitchen, rapper, Jai Nitai Lotus of Montreal. Here’s the latest visual for his recently released album, Affirmations for the single, “Wu Baby.” According to Jai, the song is a “shout-out to a Higher Power”, which is “rich in love, and greater than any man-made fear, division or fanaticism. The images in the video portray the vastness of nature in contrast to human structure.”

Feels Like Summer indeed! “Summertime Magic” and “Feels Like Summer” are the first music released by Glover since the “This Is America” controversy. Thoughts?
Another Summertime bop from the very overlooked all-female, Toronto hip-hop super-group, The Sorority. Peep their album if you haven’t listened to it yet and check out their excellent live session for CBC Music.
The four women first collaborated at a cypher in 2016 on International Women’s Day and quickly drew attention from Noisey, Fader, and numerous other hip hop tastemakers. They’ve since released singles and played shows alongside The Internet, Jidenna, Miguel, Joey Bada$$, and A-Trak.
The Sorority allows each member to showcase their signature flare and style while providing a cohesion you would expect from a group. They mix the new with the old and show respect for the greats while blazing their own trail.
“Wildin'” is from The Sorority’s debut full length, Pledge, which was released earlier this year.
Lex Leosis: “The video was so much fun to create. It was Keysha who came up with the concept, but it was actually for a different song. As we began storyboarding and laying out the plan we felt that vision was perfect for Wildin’. When we dropped the album [Pledge], the reaction for Wildin’ was so positive that we decided it was the one.”
Keysha: “Creating this video was an absolute blast. The song has a really dope energy and we wanted visuals that complimented that. I think the comedic tone in the visuals make the song as a whole, that much better. The relationship between lyrics and what’s happening in the video are spot on. We know y’all will enjoy this.”

Perfect for Summertime! Nice track by Toronto singer, Ralph and Kitchen favorite, TOBi. Peep the PR game:
Toronto based artist RALPH is an alluring pop enigma. Drawing from her disco and synth-laden roots, as well as her personal musical heroines Sade, Stevie Nicks and Donna Summer, her rose colored alt pop brims with a perennial sense of adolescent love. On the strength of her debut self-titled EP — and standouts “Cold To The Touch” and “Tease” — the budding star (née Raffa Weyman) has tracked over 10 million Spotify streams to date.
After delighting with the release of her steamy, summertime heater “Girl Next Door,” a duet with fellow Toronto upstart TOBi, she returns today with a pastel & sunshine-soaked video.
The clip finds RALPH and TOBi in a surreal summertime seaside oasis, with the singer cooing from atop a jungle gym, buried in the sand up to her head, and on a second floor balcony alongside a bevy of her squad pals. The clip was helmed by Ally, a director/producer, who has worked on videos for the likes of Janelle Monae, The Vamps, Ariana Grande, as well as a writer on the hit series, Schitt’s Creek. Ally is now developing an original comedy series with its creator, Dan Levy and Imagine Entertainment.
The track was inspired by RALPH’s own musical ascent, and mirrors the struggle rising artists often face in remaining grounded. When she reached out to the emcee to collaborate, he coincidentally had a song idea of his own that fit the context perfectly. “It was beautiful,” she recalls. “Exactly what I imagined the song to be.” RALPH’s own family and friends inspired the rest. “I keep having them joke around and say ‘I hope you don’t forget me when you become famous’ or ‘one day you’ll be too famous to hang out with me’ which is ironic because it’s friends and family who keep you grounded,” she adds. “If you ever develop an ego and start acting like an asshole, they’re the ones who remind you of who you really are. That was the idea behind the lyrics, talking about potential change but acknowledging that you’ll always be the same person no matter what.”
Also enjoy the remix by another Kitchen fave, GOVI after the jump…
