[Video] CBC Radio 3: 2011 Polaris Music Prize Gala Highlights

and here’s Arcade Fire accepting the $30,000 for winning the Polaris Music Prize:

Like I said on twitter, I think they’re worthy winners but Arcade Fire winning yet another award is so unexciting from a PR point of view. And just curious: do people outside of Canada think they are the best rock band in the world right now like one of my co-workers claimed the other day? Leave your thoughts on that in the comments below.

[New Music] Polarsets – Morning featuring remix by Jeremy Glenn

Polarsets: Morning by itsmodamusic

Regular readers remember the homie, Jeremy Glenn right?

Hit the jump also for Jeremy’s excellent Tropical Remix of Piper Davis‘ “Academics” which is old but my homegirl, Steph happened to post it on twitter the same day I got wind of this remix for some random (?) reason but without actually mentioning/crediting Jeremy though, weird!

[Event] TONIGHT in Toronto: EMAY Live at the Drake Hotel for TIFF Film Fest

Recent regular readers know I’m a big fan of the new Hamilton-based producer/MC, Emay so I’m pissed I’m gonna (probably) miss this performance here in town tonight for TIFF ‘cos I’m going to see Kid Cudi (he’s still around??!) instead. I highly recommend you check this out though if you claim to be looking for creative, artful hip-hop. Kid is wild nice on record. let’s see if he’s got it live on stage now. If I’ve persuaded you to the cause, CLICK HERE for more details on Facebook.

Listen to The Makeover – The Morning (Weeknd Makeover) from the Polaris Mixtape (cover)

Latest track from the Toronto nu-disco duo, The Makeover‘s clever Polaris Music Prize mixtape of cover songs from artists shortlisted for the Polaris which they have been releasing on a song a week basis for the past couple months. This radical reworking of The Weeknd‘s “The Morning” has been on repeat for much of this week since I first heard it (thanks to the heads up from group member Jeremy Glenn‘s manager, C. Hill). Now, if you were subscribed to the Kitchen Facebook page you would have heard this days ago. Don’t think about it, act like you know! Read more about the Makeover Polaris Mixtape on The Grid HERE.
