The recent knock on Toronto’s Tory Lanez, especially after the disappointment of his debut official album release, I Told You has been he sounds derivative, has a paucity of stand out hit songs, is not innovative etc. but, while we’ll concede his newest album, Memories Don’t Die, doesn’t really have any standout, obvious ‘hit’ singles either, it’s got a rack of good records on it and we do still like it and think it’s a solid album, more than I Told You, no question.

Listened to this official full length by Toronto artist, Anders a few times since its recent release and we like it fine but we wish he’d stretched out a little further to create his own sound and lane. We hear shades of Nav, Majid Jordan, Drake, The Weeknd and others all over this record but what make Anders Anders??! I guess we’ll learn have to the answer to that on future releases, hopefully…
What can I say about the kid, KILLY?
Blew up off “Killamonjaro”…
We got up on the movement with “Forecast” which was one of our favorite singles of 2017.
He just dropped the single, “Very Scary” a couple weeks ago, which is not even on…
Surrender Your Soul, his first (?) official full length project which just dropped.
I’ll say this, I still stand by statements I’ve frequently made since getting up on him that I think he’s next to blow out The 6ix after Drake and Tory. Dude is more that just another identikit Soundcloud rapper. He’s one of the rare rappers who actually might be better live than on his records and the emo-tinged tracks, “Doomsday” and “Fireflies” from the album are evidence to me that the upside growth potential for this kid is massive. Agree?
Not up on this (new?) kid from Toronto but this is what, I believe, they call being on trend!
NEW KILLY!!!
