[MP3] The-Dream feat Jay-Z – High Art

I actually dig The-Dream and Hov is… well. Hov but this one is not blowing my mind. You?

[MP3] Mariah Carey feat. Miguel – #Beautiful

I know I’m (pop) R&B-ing it out right now but this record is actually great. Miguel is the truth right now…

[MP3 + Music Video] Chris Brown – Fine China

I know this is wild old in blog/online time but I just got up on it. Dubious racial imagery and content in the video and song respectively aside, I think record is kind of hot. When I was up at the plantation at 550, after he broke with “Run It” and his debut album, they always talked about how ‘Breezy’ had the talent to make a modern day Thriller. I don’t think he ever came close to doing that despite all the hits he had and he may never fully shake the cloud around his relationship with Rihanna and the fallout since, but this song (and video!) is evidence that, creatively, he may be getting back on track to fulfilling that early, original promise (or hope) of becoming the new Michael Jackson. Or not…

Bonus: check out a remix featuring Common at The Rap-Up HERE.

[Music Video + MP3] Janelle Monáe – Q.U.E.E.N. feat. Erykah Badu

Somehow, even though I had heard about it, I forgot to check for this track when it dropped last week even though Janelle Monáe and Erykah Badu are two of my favorite artists but I noticed the video had just dropped via Pinterest (check me here if you’re into that sort of kind of thing, BTW) so I figured I’d just post both now. Are these (the song and video) as epic as you would expect from a collab between these two creative talents? I think you can guess where I stand on this question….

[MP3 + Music Video] Latasha Lee – Win Her Heart

I never thought I’d say this but Texas’s Latasha Lee Robinson, along with her band, The BlackTies migth could be the singer who can fill the enormous gap left in music after the still untimely death of the late, great Amy Winehouse. She’s the real deal. Check out this track that’s very reminiscent of “Love is a Losing Game” and tell me I ain’t right! At very least, it’s better than than travesty that is the Andre 3000 & Beyonce cover of Amy’s “Back to Black”
