[MP3] Kelis – Jerk Ribs (Mount Kimbie Remix)

Kelis - Jerk Ribs (Mount Kimbie Remix) artwork

Damn, Mount Kimbie is on fire currently, huh? They remix Kelis‘s frankly lackluster sounding “Jerk Ribs” (hit the jump to hear that version) from her forthcoming Food album dropping (UK only?) in April after dropping their own, excellent “Made To Stray” the other day.

[MP3] Just Blaze & Sinjin Hawke – One

Just Blaze & Sinjin Hawke - One artwork

Been out of the mix (and out of town) on business so I’m gonna post a few joints I didn’t have time to before I left and while I was away and then get to some stuff that dropped more recently (that is, in the last couple days versus two weeks ago, lol). First off, “One” by Just Blaze & Sinjin Hawke. All builds, big drum fills and anthemic anticipation. Not mad…..

[MP3] Lady – Get Ready (Ticklah Rmx)

artwork "Get Ready" (Ticklah Rmx) by Lady

From Truth & Soul Records:

The song, Get Ready, taken from her self-titled LP, is one of the best examples of her truly unique sound. It’s driving rhythm, which falls somewhere in-between William DeVaughn’s “Be Thankful For What You’ve Got” and that N.W.A song that samples William Devaughn “Be Thankful For What You’ve Got”, is the perfect backdrop for Lady’s raw vocal stylings and positive message. The EP also includes a masterful remix by NYC reggae super-dude, Victor Axelrod, a.k.a Ticklah. All that remains of the original are the vocals, the rest is replayed and reprogrammed. The result is a song that sounds like a classic reggae tune that could of been cut on the same day and in the same studio as Johnny Osbourne’s “We Need Love”. This is not a remix in today’s sense of the word, this is a version.
