Calling all Hip Hop lovers! Ultimate MC is a groundbreaking new television series that will explore the evolution of MC culture through the eyes of 32 rappers competing in a national MC tournament. The documentary series will also feature exclusive interviews with the most respected names in Canadian and American Hip Hop culture. Ultimate MC launched on June 2, 2011 and aires every Thursday at 10 pm (EST) on AUX TV, Canada’s only true music TV station.

“Ultimate MC is an exciting new addition to our TV line-up. It’s a documentary series that digs deep into hip hop culture to examine what makes a good MC,” says Cullen Fairfield, Executive in charge of Production. “It’s especially interesting to see the range of MC competitors that truly represent the diversity in Canada’s emerging hip hop landscape. The interviews with hip hop veterans and current stars provides an interesting perspective on the past, present and future of MC culture.”

The series follows 32 freestylers as they compete for a record deal with Canada’s leading independent record label, CP Records and a $5000 cash prize. The rappers represent all walks of life – from all across the country. Two finalists from each regional battle in Toronto, Calgary, Vancouver and Montreal will compete in the finals – which coincides with the series finale. Celebrities including Royce Da 5’9, Planet Asia and Sean Price helped to select the finalists and also performed at each battle event.

Produced by Frameblender and The Stylus Group, the Ultimate MC TV series is hosted by Scarborough native “Bishop” Brigante. Bishop’s videos have topped the Much Music video charts and his profile went international after taking home Video of the Year at the Urban World Film Festival in 2002. He’s toured with 50 cent and Busta Rhymes and is considered to be one of the most respected names in the MC culture.

“Ultimate MC is different from any other music show out there,” says Bishop. “It’s raw and authentic and the documentary style coverage of the tournament combined with the hard-hitting interviews makes it so compelling to watch. The series holds a magnifying glass up to freestyle rap battles, considered by many to be a dying art form in today’s MC culture.” For more information about the series, visit www.ultimatemc.tv.
