And even more MTL vibes. Another nice one for Summer from relative newcomer, KALLITECHNIS:
The two-in-one video for “Come up/ body&soul,” the first ever visual by KALLITECHNIS, offers viewers a comprehensive look into her intimate inner-world as she pieces together a collage in Come Up, unaware of the audience’s gaze, all while demonstrating, via the collage, the elements that comprise her: soul and ego. This first part ultimately ends with a message of paramount importance to KALLI, one that’s overarching all of her art: SOUL OVER EGO.
Say Kalli, “Come up is an especially meaningful song to me because it reflects my current reality. The “come up” is here and now. It’s all of my vulnerabilities pieced together and reflected in the authenticity of my art. The footage of collage-making is a direct parallel to that. It’s just me fusing all concepts of soul and ego into the entity that is KALLITECHNIS.”
“I wrote body&soul as an ode to candour. I owe a lot of personal growth to just being honest with my(self) through the good times as well as the bad. body&soul is about exactly that: having your physical body work in tandem with your soul in a way that’s honest and unapologetic.”
Y’all digging the jazzy, soulful vibes? Coming real soon, get ready for some even bigger things from KALLITECHNIS in the lead up to the release of her Chromatic EP later this summer!
More Montreal vibes! Been a fan of soulful, pop singer, Sara Diamond since discovering her while working on CBC Searchlight.
“God is good, God is great!”
Always happy to support friend of the Kitchen, rapper, Jai Nitai Lotus of Montreal. Here’s the latest visual for his recently released album, Affirmations for the single, “Wu Baby.” According to Jai, the song is a “shout-out to a Higher Power”, which is “rich in love, and greater than any man-made fear, division or fanaticism. The images in the video portray the vastness of nature in contrast to human structure.”

Feels Like Summer indeed! “Summertime Magic” and “Feels Like Summer” are the first music released by Glover since the “This Is America” controversy. Thoughts?
Another Summertime bop from the very overlooked all-female, Toronto hip-hop super-group, The Sorority. Peep their album if you haven’t listened to it yet and check out their excellent live session for CBC Music.
The four women first collaborated at a cypher in 2016 on International Women’s Day and quickly drew attention from Noisey, Fader, and numerous other hip hop tastemakers. They’ve since released singles and played shows alongside The Internet, Jidenna, Miguel, Joey Bada$$, and A-Trak.
The Sorority allows each member to showcase their signature flare and style while providing a cohesion you would expect from a group. They mix the new with the old and show respect for the greats while blazing their own trail.
“Wildin'” is from The Sorority’s debut full length, Pledge, which was released earlier this year.
Lex Leosis: “The video was so much fun to create. It was Keysha who came up with the concept, but it was actually for a different song. As we began storyboarding and laying out the plan we felt that vision was perfect for Wildin’. When we dropped the album [Pledge], the reaction for Wildin’ was so positive that we decided it was the one.”
Keysha: “Creating this video was an absolute blast. The song has a really dope energy and we wanted visuals that complimented that. I think the comedic tone in the visuals make the song as a whole, that much better. The relationship between lyrics and what’s happening in the video are spot on. We know y’all will enjoy this.”
