been a major fan of this kid since I saw him rip a DJ set at The Drake Underground as part of a Field Trip Discovery Series event there earlier this year. Also just saw him kill it opening for Ryan Hemsworth a couple weeks back (see the IG video clip above). Here goes a track he did for a Field Trip Discovery Series release (which also features #DK11 alum, Brendan Philip) sponsored by Scion Sessions.
Another one I don’t know much about this. I got up on it from a friend’s Facebook. Apparently, this West coast-based dude, Knx. (aka Knxwledge) is signed to Stones Throw so that’s a always a good sign. Not sure if this track which samples should be considered a remix, refix or what exactly of Mary J. Blige‘s “I Can Love You”??
Don’t know much about this one and truth be told I forget how I came across it as it’s been sitting in my soundcloud feed for posting for over a week now. It’s a good one though. 500,000 plus plays there already suggest you probably have already heard this if you do most of your msuic discovery via soundcloud and/or blogs. If not, this is RIYL: Quadron, Jessie Ware etc.
Was a huge fan of Sleigh Bells when they first came out and their secret show at Tattoo during NXNE this summer was incredible. That being said, this new track is cool but I miss the massive drums and abrasive, epic wall of guitar noise that was the hallmark of their production sound before. This feels toned down and at times verges on a Top 40 pop radio feel. Maybe they’ll pick up a ton of new fans as a result of their new ‘mass appeal’ sound but they may lose a few of their original ones like me in the process.
Super late pass on this but I’ve been busy. Groundwork is a new weekly party here in Toronto that started last week showcasing the best in new school beat making & production (think a T.dot version of LA’s Low End Theory party for for rough reference purposes). If you check out the tracks below, a GANZ remix of Crystal Fighters and original tracks & remixes from Hrmxny and Pusher, you know this is gonna be a fiya party:
Next Groundwork this Thursday (Nov. 20), get details HERE.
