Came across this Ottawa rapper, JC while working on CBC’s Searchlight project. Thought he was super dope and might go further in the process than he did but alas, it was not to be. Still, tell me this ain’t some pretty flawless young boy, swag rap from the production and songwriting to the fantastic video, right??
Even though we already wrapped up 2016, we’re gonna take some time to share some loosies from near the end of last year that we loved but never got around to posting for one reason or another starting with this Jai Nitai Lotus Solange remix. One of our favorite rappers remixes a track from one of our favorite albums this year??! No brainer!
This is most definitely RIYL status if you dig Soulection-type sounds. Salute, Jai and sorry, even though we’re wild late in general putting this up, that we didn’t at least do it in time for your birthday yesterday. Consider this a belated a gift!
Montreal-based #DK11 album alums, Jai Nitai Lotus and Sam I Am Montolla are back with a new heater, “Life Support.” Here’s the homie, Jai on the track:
This time around it features my very talented sister Sam I Am Montolla… I don’t know many singers who would be eager to sing on something as aggressive as this right here, but she wrote and laid her vocals in under an hour. I had her over for a studio session and we got into some passionate discussions about the world, art, music, and it inspired this song. Afterwards I hit up my brother, the legendary DJ Static for some cuts. When Static sent me the rough edit… I tell you I had that tough, scrunchy face while listening… dude cutting in triplets to the beat. Word!! This song has the energy to propel your 2 minute high-intensity workout 🙂
My only complaint? It’s too short! Put this joint on repeat!
That time I got mentioned in a #1 podcast! It’s worth listening to the entire thing (it’s less than 30 minutes total), but if you’re time crunched, go right to 12:46. Thanks Del, Lana and Aaron for the love. If you;re more of an iTunes user for for podcast listening, go HERE.
The just-released, new Northen Lights album is great: a nice mix of crossover EDM, dubstep, hip-hop, old school drum n bass, UK grime, au courant indie-electronic pop and more. Nice to see how this Toronto-based duo continues to evolve with their sound and music . Here go two tracks from the album featuring Pusha T, Rivers Cuomo of Weezer and Jadakiss and Styles P of The Lox. Ya dig??
